Then, with the template open, simply add text using the text tool in your graphics program.
When you're happy how your text looks, simply send it to print.
Making professional quality political button designs couldn't be any easier!
(FYI... the template used for this example can be found on Political Button Templates- Series 2 CD)
MAKE DIFFERENT SIZE POLITICAL CAMPAIGN BUTTONS
The templates on our Political Button Templates CDs are sized and sorted so you can easily make campaign buttons in any, or all of the following sizes:
1-1/2, 1-3/4", 2-1/4", 3", 3-1/2", BAM 2-1/4" and BAM 3"
CAN I REALLY MAKE MORE THAN $50.00 AN HOUR MAKING CAMPAIGN BUTTONS?
Yes, you can!
But to prove it, let's crunch some numbers so you can see for yourself.
In the following example, we're going to make 100 2-1/4" political campaign buttons for one of your customers.
At Dr. Don's Buttons, we charge $95.00 to create 100 2-1/4" buttons (however, you are free to charge whatever you wish). But for this example, we will use $95.00 for the calculations.
As we've already seen, creating a design is the first step in the process and if you are at all familiar with your graphics program, it shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes to add text and then size and position it on your design.
After you have completed your design, you will then print the design and make your buttons. With a good button machine, this might take another 30-40 minutes.
So the total amount of time necessary to design and make 100 2-1/4" buttons should be about one hour.
Next, we are goint to factor in the cost of materials that will be used to make your buttons.
At Dr. Don's Buttons, we sell 1000 complete 2-1/4" pinback button sets for $89.95. At that price, the button parts work out to be just under 9 cents a piece.
We also need to factor in the cost of printing and for that we will add in another 5 cents per button to cover the cost of printing to an ink-jet or laser printer.
In this example, the cost of the materials to make 100 buttons works out to be $14.00.
To determine your actual profit, take the $95.00 your customer is paying for their buttons, subtract the $14.00 for the button supplies and printing. This leaves you with a tidy profit of $81.00 for one hours work!
Not too bad for a home-based business, now is it?
Heck, that's not bad for ANY business!
THE ADVANTAGE YOU HAVE OVER LARGER BUTTON MAKERS
One of the things that I have discovered since we started producing political campaign buttons is that politicians always seem to need to have their buttons in a hurry and are willing to pay for expedited shipping to get the buttons to them for their next event.
The advantage you have is the ability to make buttons for local politicians, and not have to charge them rush shipping. If you get your production techniques down, you could even provide SAME DAY Service, which is something larger button-makers typically can't offer.
A LIST OF WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE POLITICAL CAMPAIGN BUTTONS
If you want to make political campaign buttons, here's what you are going to need.
You will need a computer (or access to one).
When I first started making buttons, I didn't own a computer and I designed and printed the artwork I created at a local community college.
To gain access to their computers, I enrolled in a computer class and paid $35.00 tuition for a computer course. By doing so, I was able to learn what I needed about computers and it gave me access to their computers and printers from 7am until 10pm.
(If you already your own a computer and know how to use it, so much the better).
Something else you will need is a graphics application to design your buttons.
With the release of our Online Button Design Studio, creating any type of button is easy and political buttons are no exception. Simply upload the template you want to use to the CD Template Design Studio (part of the Onine Button Design Studio), add text, choose the size you want the button to be and the Online Button Design Studio will duplicate your design to fill the printed page and then save the page as a .pdf file that can be printed using Adobe Reader (a free program) or any program that can read .pdf files.
Or you can use just about any graphics program that allows you to work with text and graphics to create the designs for your buttons.
You will also need a way to print the artwork for your buttons.
Inkjet printers are very affordable and there are many models available, starting at about $100.00.
Then, of course, you will need a button machine.
WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT BUTTON MACHINES?
Trust me when I tell you... button machines are NOT all the same!
Some are easy to operate... many are not.
Some will make professional quality buttons... many do not.
If you plan to sell the buttons you make, you are going to need a button machine that's fast and can make professional quality buttons.
What's the difference, you ask?
Inexpensive button machines are typically made of lesser materials like plastic, or plastic-like compounds. While they are cheap and easy to produce, you need to keep in mind that the supplies used to make a button are made of steel.
So when you make a button with one of those machines, you are using plastic to bend and crimp steel.
That's like trying to cut through a tough steak with a plastic knife!
And that's why people who use plastic button machines encounter so many problems making buttons.
Problems like an unacceptably high percentage of their buttons not going together, or buttons that fall apart shortly after being made. Or having paper and plastic sticking out the sides of their buttons.
Buttons having these type of poor quality issues cannot be considered "professional-quality".
Professional quality buttons have, smooth. tightly crimped edges and they won't fall apart in your customers hands. And they won't have paper or plastic sticking out the sides.
The button machines we offer made of solid steel, so they are durable and dependable. And they make professional-quality buttons that have smooth, tightly crimped edges.
WHAT'S THE BEST SIZE FOR POLITICAL CAMPAIGN BUTTONS?
I usually recommend making political campaign buttons in the 2-1/4" size. That's because 2-1/4" parts are less expensive than 3" parts and you can get twice as many designs on a printed page.
And 2-1/4" is also the size most politicians ask for!
WHICH BUTTON MACHINE SHOULD I GET?
If you want to make political campaign buttons, I recommend our Model 225 Starter Kit.
The Model 225 is more expensive than the plastic button machines I just talked about, but aren't going to outgrow in a week or two.
With our Model 225 kit, you'll receive the Model 225 button press, an AC-1 circle cutter, and the button-making supplies necessary to make 250 pin-back buttons. All for only $319.95.
But that's not all!
You'll also receive one of our premium Button Designs CDs, FREE of Charge. These CDs normally sell for up to $79.95 each.
If you wish, your premium CD can be either one of our Political Button Templates CDs.
So, if you already have a computer (or access to one), it's truly possible to start a highly profitable, home-based business making political campaign buttons for an investment of less than $400.
If you have any questions about our button-making equipment or button-making in general, feel free to give me a call. I'll be happy to speak with you and answer all your questions.
